Life for Relief and Development donates medical equipment to MOHS
Freetown, Feb. 24 , 014 (SLENA) – Life for Relief and Development, a humanitarian organization in collaboration with the Brother’s Brother Foundation USA, and and MedWish in Cleveland, Ohio, USA has donated medical equipment to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and Text books worth millions of Leones to 139 Learning Institutions in the country.
Making his statement at the handing over ceremony held at the African Muslim Agency hall in Freetown, the President and Chief Executive Officer, Life for Relief and Development, Abdallah Boumediene said their mission is to provide assistance to countries in need including the disabled and orphans.
He told his audience that having learnt about the Sierra Leone situation, they, in their humble efforts were able to provide the necessary medical equipment including beds, wheel chairs, crutches and other specific items to boost the government hospitals in Sierra Leone, as well as the provision of text books to learning institutions to strengthen pupils students and their libraries.
Mr. Abdallah Boumediene described knowledge as life, pointing out that it gives light to ignorance and darkness, and encouraged parents to be committed and compassionate with the education of their children.
He said they are committed to offer more humanitarian gesture to the country and thanked the government and host organization for the support and warm reception received during their mission.
The Director, Life for Relief and Development Sierra Leone, Mohamed Lamin Fofanah disclosed that three containers of the medical equipment worth millions of Leones were donated to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and modern text books to primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in the Western Area and the provinces.
He said the organization was established in 1992 as a result of the 1991 Iraq Gulf war to provide humanitarian services to deserving people.
Mr. Fofanah described the organization as one of the largest Arab-American institution, adding that they offer services across the globe irrespective of race, religion or colour.
He said the gesture is to compliment government’s efforts in line with the Agenda for Prosperity.
The Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Brima Kargbo reiterated government’s commitment to providing accessible and affordable quality health care to its citizens and other people living in Sierra Leone.
He said the government National Health Sector Strategic Plan promotes health within six important pillars centred on governance, human resource, health care financing, drugs and medical supplies and equipment, adding that the gesture would go a long way towards beefing up development in the health sector.
The Chief Medical Officer spoke of the improvement made in the reduction of maternal and newborn mortality, malaria, and life saving interventions to ensure no woman die giving birth.
He said the 2013 Demographic and Health Survey’s Report was encouraging, and depicts government’s commitment towards bringing life to the entire nation in the spirit of the Agenda for Prosperity.
The Chief Medical Officer implored his audience to encourage people in their various communities to use the health facilities noting the importance of full community participation in addressing preventable deaths.
Other speakers include the President Brother’s Brother Foundation, Mr. Luke Hingson and the Deputy Director of Political Affairs, Ministry of Political Affairs and Chairman for the occasion, Mr. Osman Sankoh.
