Hooliganism must be stopped at football matches
Football in Sierra Leone decades or more years ago was watched by decent, respectable, elderly and responsible people but after the 11 year rebel war in the country, it is violence, stabbing, fighting, and hooliganism at almost every football match across the country especially the Western Area.
In most of these instances the Sierra Leone Police has mostly been overwhelmed by the rioters and a lot of destruction of property and injuries occur.
Violence at most football fields is difficult to put a stop to because in almost every popular football field even with the presence of Police and Soldiers, dangerous drugs and alcoholic drinks are sold and when supporters become intoxicated they become violent and start behaving like beasts.
In most cases even the Police and Soldiers also take the dangerous drugs and alcohol and so when violence breaks out they are ill prepared to put it under control.
Hooliganism can only stop during football matches if the security personnel themselves stop taking these drugs when watching football matches and the organizers also stop fans and business people from taking dangerous drugs and alcoholic drinks to football grounds for sale.
If such measures are taken, then violence at football grounds will be stopped or minimized to the barest level.
