Paramount Chief presents new Chiefdom Speaker to stakeholders

Kambia, Feb. 19 (SLENA) – a new Chiefdom Speaker has been presented to the Magbema people at a colourful ceremony held at the chiefdom and district headquarter town of Kambia.

The ceremony, which was chaired by Idriss Kafol Kamara, a leading activist in the district, was witnessed by a galaxy of local dignitaries including the Clerk of Parliament, Member of Parliament of Constituency 37, Hon. Ibrahim Njai, representative of the Sierra Leone Police, Office of National Security and councillors of the Kambia District Council.

Presenting the new Speaker, PC Angbek of Mabgema Chiefdom expressed the profound need for his subjects and every other well-meaning person to put hands on deck for the development of the chiefdom in particular and the district as a whole, placing special emphasis on the need for his people to be sincere, honest and discipline in their various spheres of life.

While calling on his subjects to be hard working and law abiding, the chief explained that the position of a Chiefdom Speaker No. 2 was established by his late father with the principal objective to address the issues of lawlessness occasioned by the then rebel war coupled with the growing increase in population in the chiefdom.

He said his administration has equally deemed it fit to confer the position to Chief Pa Adikali Bentheiben after thorough consultations with his ceremonial and Section Chiefs, saying the Chiefdom Speaker No. 1, Pa Alimamy Kaforr of Rokupr was getting too old for the challenges of this particular Office, thus the need for him to be assisted by a more energetic person.

Chief Pa Adikali Bentheinben who appeared humbled by the honour bestowed on him, expressed thanks and appreciation to all that have contributed in diverse ways towards the success of what he referred to as a memorable day and promised to do all it shall require of him in promoting and protecting the interest of the people of Magbema Chiefdom.
