PAC postpones first session hearing

Freetown, Feb. 17 (SLENA) – The Public Accounts Committee of parliament past Wednesday postponed its first session hearings of the 2012 Auditor General’s Report due to absence of the Auditor General Mrs. Clara Taylor Pearce, the Financial Secretary from Ministry of Finance, Edmond Koroma and the Commissioner General of NRA, Madam Haja Kala.  (Photo: MDAs present at the hearing)

Excuse was given that Mrs Taylor Pearce was sick and has not been reporting for duty for some time now while the committee was informed that Madam Haja Kala was bereaved.

A motion was moved by a member of the committee, Hon Hassan Sheriff who observed that this was a new year and a new PAC session, so things should be done differently this time round.

He therefore moved that as the hearing marked the first session and are dealing with key players, he suggested that those key officials be present for the session.

The motion was supported by the other members of the committee and it was endorsed that the meeting will not continue until a later date.

Deputy Chairman of the committee chairing the session, Hon Komba Koideyoma said he respects the presence of the other officials that were present and most especially the Accountant General, Mr. Kebe Koroma who was present at the session.

Hon Koideyoma also told the Accountant General that on these sittings he should send one of his officials to be present in all proceedings as many of the MDAs under probe usually refer to the Accountant General’s office as having made payments or their documents being held in his office.

The deputy chair thanked all for attending and said a later date will be announced to mark the opening session of the hearings.
