Police officers bemoan bad roads in Moyamba district
Moyamba, Feb 3 (SLENA) –Despite the rugged nature of the roads in that district, including the Moyamba township roads, the District Traffic Officer, Inspector A. N. Nicol and his Assistant, Sergeant Yambasu Richard have been able to reduce the road traffic offences resulting from over loading and dangerous driving.
Other common traffic offences include riding on the canopy of vehicles, driving unlicensed and unissued vehicles.
Speaking to SLENA in Moyamba town over the weekend, Inspector Nicol said for the first time in the history of Moyamba Junction and Moyamba District in general, more that 85% of both commercial and private vehicles including motor cycles plying the district are all registered, insured and licensed.
He said this compliance by motorists is an indication of government’s determination to clamp down on lawlessness among drivers.
He however disclosed the challenges facing the traffic division in the district, among which is the lack of vehicles to chase lawless drivers.
He expressed satisfaction over the presence of a sitting magistrate in the district which has been imposing fines on offending drivers thereby generating revenue for government.
Inspector Nicol bemoaned the deplorable state of the road from Moyamba Junction to Moyamba town and other bad roads in the district and called on the roads authority to come to the aid of both commuters and motorists alike.
