Hon Helen Kuyembeh, in her contribution to President Koroma’s address in parliament December 6, 2013, urged the president to reach out to all aggrieved communities and reconcile them, noting that Sierra Leone is today more divided on tribal, ethic and political lines than any time in the history of the country.
She opined that the south-east of the country is so aggrieved that they perceive the APC and President Korama as enemies, stressing that the division has been exploited by dishonest politicians to their advantage.
The SLPP MP said many politicians go closer to the president for personal benefit while others portray the president to their illiterate followers as a demon who is responsible for all their woes and therefore called on the president to see the need to unite Sierra Leone and Sierra Leoneans for the good of the country.
Hon. Kuyembeh observed that a lot of discrimination is taking place against south-easterners with regards the awards of grant- in- aids to students. “If you do not belong to the APC, no grant for you,” she said.
She urged President Koroma to copy the good example of the late president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela who took up office and brought together all South Africans regardless of race, colour or religion.
