ACC secures conviction on bribery against traffic police officer

Police Constable 10688 SAMUEL ABASS JAH of the Traffic Division, attached to the Central Police Station in Freetown, was on Wednesday 29 January 2014, convicted on corruption charges relating to bribery contrary to Anti-Corruption Act 2008.

Police Officer 10688 Jah, who pleaded guilty to all three counts, was arrested on 11th July 2013, during a sting operation after the Commission received complaints from the public that the said traffic police officer was harassing and soliciting bribes from commercial motor drivers. On the 11th July 2013, Constable Jah solicited and accepted an advantage of Fifty Thousand Leones (Le: 50,000) from a taxi driver along Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown.

The presiding Judge, Hon. Justice M.A. Paul, imposed a fine of Ninety Million Leones (Le: 90,000.000) or alternatively serve three years imprisonment per count on default of payment. Constable Jah, who has not paid the imposed fine, has been sent to prison.

The Commission wishes to reassure the general public of its relentless resolve to increase the number of sting operations with a view to curbing bribery in Sierra Leone.

  • Gimmick, this case is an indicative of the very selective justices that we have been seeing itinerant across the country. If the A.C.C thinks they can fool us or make up by convicting this poor police officer for their sheer failures to convict top civil technocrats from medical doctors, politicians and the rich and most powerful in the country they should really think to employ another strategy to convince the people of Sierra Leone that they fit for purpose. Governmental ministries especially the Ministry of Health are losing millions of dollars under the watch of the A.C.C just poking the eyes and getting kickbacks buying expensive jeeps and building monko houses under expense of hard working Sierra Leoneans.
Joseph has no moral like; Abdul Cole who set a brighter example that he has integrity and ethos of which his successor massively lacks. Shame on you A.C.C for using this poor police officer as a scape goat for your impotent strategies. None sense, we be cannot fooled all the time. It is better we get rid of your useless waste of time body and replace it with snail. Shame on you.
