Alpha Bah is new Drivers Union President
The most trumpeted Motor Drivers and General Transport Workers Union elections ended peacefully Friday, January 24 at the Atlantic Hall of the National Stadium in Freetown with the former Union National Treasurer, Mr. Alpha Bah emerging as President.
He polled 69 votes beating the incumbent President Alhaji Abu Bakarr Fofanah, who had 2 votes, the former Western Region President, Sahr Renner Kaigbanja who received 18 votes and Abu Bakarr Kamara who scored 5 votes. Mr. David Conteh retained his position as Vice President.
Also elected as Grand Chief Patron was Mr. Aruna M. S. Conteh popularly called Ambush Commander, replacing popular businessman, Chief Michael Lamin Bangura.
The elections were conducted by the Independent Elections Committee of the Sierra Leone Labor Congress.
