Diaspora engage in SL’s economic expansion

Sierra Leoneans resident in Europe, Australia, Canada, North America and the United Kingdom continue to demonstrate various development programs that offer employment facilities to youths and women who had dropped out of school as the result of the casualties of Sierra Leone’s unprovoked civil war. However, it is consequences of the war that sensitized Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora by default to engage in reconstruction and rehabilitation through community development projects that ought to get the beneficiaries involved in project activities. The mayhem caused by the war interlinked Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora to appear self invigorated in their efforts toward the transformation of their war ravaged nation by engaging in various developmental projects aimed at revamping the nation’s economy. On one hand, the dreadful thing about the war is that we can never regain lives lost.

On the other hand, the good thing about the war is that it taught lessens that we would have not learned voluntarily. Also, it empowered the minds of Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora to engage in the economic expansion of Sierra Leone through various developmental projects at grass root level, which efforts appear to castigate the idleness of youths. Thus, the efforts of the numerous Sierra Leone communities in the Diaspora should be appreciated and embraced by the citizenry at home, which appreciation may perhaps strengthen their minds to continue with their tireless efforts in recuperating the vulnerable population through project activities.

What bothers most right-minded citizens is that many if not most political fans spend more time in discussing silly things, while attacking each other in online gossip forums than engaging in appreciating the everyday-to-day community development programs that the Diaspora community is spawning in Sierra Leone. Therefore, in an attempt to cultivate discussions that should and can influence changes in behavioral management in a nation returning from rebels’ incursion, appreciating the efforts of Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora for the establishment of projects is a good place to start bridging the spirit of togetherness. No matter how strong and plenty they might appear to be, Sierra Leoneans in Sierra Leone alone can hardly succeed in developing their nation without the unconditional participation of the international community and the Sierra Leone community in the Diaspora.

The initiation of diverse development projects by Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora did create employment opportunities and became a source of wiring more money from overseas to Sierra Leone to maintain such projects. There is no assertion in this leaflet that intends to categorize Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora as better people than those living in the country itself. Rather, emphasis  on the relationship between Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora and those citizens in Sierra Leone highlighted that the most unswerving sequences of national development in Sierra Leone is derived from foreign aid agencies and Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora although we do not hear much about that in the political forums as well as in media debates.

One of the most interesting sides of Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora is that those residing in Europe are trying to establish more projects in Sierra Leone than those in the United States, which makes the citizenry to be benefitting more from such competition.
