President Koroma to Inspect Health Facilities Country Wide
President Ernest Bai Koroma has taken a disciplined decision to inspect all health facilities across the country. In his drive to get control of the country’s deplorable health conditions, the President will start this undertaking by conducting surprise visits to all major hospitals countrywide.
The President’s visits will cover the whole twelve districts and will give him first hand information about the country’s state of preparedness ahead of the forthcoming Free Health Care for pregnant and lactating women as well as under five children a reality.
President Ernest Koroma revealed his nationwide tour itinerary while addressing officials of the health ministry and donor partners. The president is determined to pay on-the-spot visits to all hospitals, Public Health Units (PHUs) and other health facilities both government or private owned across the country.
The President’s visits will start today in Port Loko, after which he will head for Lunsar. From Lunsar the presidential delegation will continue to Makeni in the Tonkolili District. The tour will continue tomorrow to Kabala in the Koinadugu District where he will officially open the built modern hospital and residential houses for doctors, nurses and other health workers.
Meanwhile, President Koroma has established a commission to look into and speedily bring in recommendations for the improvement of the general working conditions of doctors and all health workers across the country.
“I will improve the working condition of every health worker in this country so as to have them committed,†the head of state is reported to have said on the eve of the country tour.
