Police award deserving Officers

Saturday, January 4 this year saw jubilant Police Officers celebrating a happy awards night at the grounds of the Central Police Division along Wallace Johnson Street in Freetown.

The ceremony which was organized by the Central Police Division was graced by Government officials together with the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. Joseph Bandabla Dauda, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Francis Alieu Munu and distinguished personalities.

In his opening statement, the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Joe Abass Bangura, emphasized the need and importance to award Police Officers for their good work done in safeguarding lives and properties with less sleep all over the country.

He observed that there are good Police Officers in the Sierra Leone Police who need to be praised and honoured for their excellent performance in executing their duties with no fear or favour, ill will or affection.

In his welcome address, Chief Superintendent of Police [CSP] Bakarr Koroma of the Central Police Division said the awards night is an annual celebration that has been celebrated since he took office as Division Commander in April 2010. He intimated that 2013 was a year of challenges for the Police but that they have a lot of achievements which must be recognized and celebrated.

He pointed out that armed robbery has been reduced in Freetown as a result of effective Police operations while emphasizing that they encourage and support their officers to enable them perform better.

In his comments, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Francis Alieu Munu expressed happiness over the refurbishment of the Central Police Station which he said was done through self help by the Police Officers and the community people.

He commended all those who came together to ensure the building was refurbished, adding that he was very happy that the Central Police Division has taken the lead in the culture of appreciation which he said many Sierra Leoneans do not possess but are always condemning the efforts of hard working people.

While maintaining that Sierra Leone continues to be one of the most peaceful countries in the world, he asked Sierra Leoneans to develop the culture of appreciation. He pointed out that today the country is exporting peace keepers to war countries which he described as a laudable venture and commended the entire Sierra Leone Police for their continuous effort to make them an enviable institution.

He stressed that the Police Management Board recognizes hard working Police Officers whose efforts he said will be appreciated and compensated.
