President Ernest Bai Koroma Arrives in Nigeria Again
President Ernest Bai Koroma has arrived in the Federal Republic of Nigeria Tuesday March 9th to join his Colleague Presidents in a bid to endorse the initiative for the development of Agribusiness and Agro-businesses in Africa. (President Koroma, at left, in suit)
He will join his colleagues on the third and final day of a three day conference on Wednesday March 10, 2010 at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, where other forty four Governments Ministers of Agriculture & Food Security and Ministers of Trade from different parts of Africa including Sierra Leone’s Hon. David Carew and Hon.Dr. Sam Sesay who participated on Tuesday, the second day.
President Koroma and other African Heads of States will also join the conference on the third day, where Forty Four Agricultural and Trade experts from different parts of Africa participated on Monday soon after the official opening of the three days Conference. Â
The Presidents will adopt the African Agribusiness and Agro-Industries Development Initiative (3ADI),as a follow up action to the Global Agro –industries forum(GAIF), organized by FAO,UNIDO,IFAD and the Government of India in April 2008,with the objective of raising awareness, exchanging information, considering strategies and promoting partnerships for future action towards the development of competitive, sustainable and inclusive agro-industries.
The 3ADI initiative is a frame work for the development of Agriculture business and Agri processing, a move that will help facilitate the transformation of producers of raw materials to manufacturers.
The grounds for the conference and for 3ADI stem from the momentum created for agricultural sector development in Africa in conjunction with the recent political commitments resulting from the recognition of the need to respond to the food prices crisis and avoid future crises.
President Koroma and his delegation were received at the Presidential wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja by Hon Minister of Youth Development Senator Akinlabi, OlasunKanmi,Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, ECOWAS and Central African Countries H.E .Henry O. Macauley, Deputy High Commissioner Major General (Rtd) Edwin Sam Mbomah and other embassy staff.
