Lifeline Nehemiah graduates thirty six

The Lifeline Betteh Tumara Technical Vocational Training Institute at Kuntorloh in Wellington, on Saturday, December 7 this year graduated 36 students in Auto Mechanics, Building and Construction, Metal Works, Hair Dressing and Cosmetology and Electrical Installation.  (Lifeline Nehemiah graduands)

In welcoming the graduands and guests to the ceremony, the Financial Controller of Lifeline Nehemiah Projects, Mr. Leonard Kamara stated that he was very proud to note that just like they too were nurtured and capacitated by credible and selfless men and women so they were very thrilled that they too are now in the position to raise young men and women and make become useful citizens in society.

In explaining the purpose of the project, Programme Manager of Lifeline Nehemiah Projects, Mr. Philemon S. Kamara, stated that they established the institute in order to train young men and women in skills that would make them self-reliant and develop their families, communities and country

He revealed that the project which stated in 2012 is a one year intensive certificate course that is meant to position the nation’s young men and women to get the jobs that would be otherwise given to foreigners.

He explained that the project is being implemented by the Lifeline Nehemiah Projects.

He paid tribute to the Big Lottery Fund United Kingdom and the Lifeline Network International for giving them the financial and material support to give education to the country’s youths and make them become useful and productive youths.

In his statement, the Deputy Director of the Lifeline Nehemiah Projects, Mr. Prince Tommy Williams, stated that the occasion was a milestone in the nation’s human resource development aspirations.

He paid homage to the graduands, their parents, guardians and friends who have supported them in diverse ways to make them achieve what they set out for one year ago.

He also commended the management and trainers for their commitment, patience and dedication to duty to see the trainees through the course.

He also paid tribute the pioneers of the of the Lifeline Nehemiah Projects, among them the late Founder, Reverend Richard Mandewa Cole, Madam Yeakah Cole-Sesay, Pastor Albert Bob Dimoh,  Alhaji Chief Pa Alimamy Kanu, Mr. Karim Mandewa, the Secretary General of the Board of Trustees of Lifeline, Mr. Abdul Hassan Fackie, Pastor Emmanuel Freeman, Mrs. Kona Koroma, Mrs. Juliana Konteh, Pastor Khalilu Kamara, Pastor Edward Cole, Pastor Dauda Kamara, Mr.  Prince Kpandeyengeh and the Lifeline Families in the United Kingdom.

He revealed that over the years Lifeline has had a lot of challenges but that he was happy to note that the project is a success story.

He revealed that the project has a Church that caters for the spiritual needs of the community people, the Nehemiah Home for Boys where they have rehabilitated close to a thousand ex-combatants, children traumatized by war and supported children from disadvantaged backgrounds, the Ruth Nest for Girls where they have rehabilitated over forty ex-combatants girls.

He also stated that they also have a Nursery school where to date they have provided education for over five hundred children aged three to six years, the Lifeline Primary School where thousands of community children benefited, the Lifeline Junior and Senior Secondary Schools where thousands of children have benefited.

He also revealed that the project has a Health Clinic which operated from 2003 to 2007 and is presently being considered to be reopened, a Technical and Vocational Training Centre where hundreds of young men and women continue to receive training in basic life skills, the Lifeline Computer Training School, and an Entertainment Spot where games are shown for the relaxation of community people.

He further explained they have plans to expand further into agriculture, animal rearing and transportation.

He paid tribute to the National Director of Lifeline Nehemiah, Mr. Philip Joel Cole commonly called PJ, who he said was presently in England on assignment but will soon return to the country.

Delivering his keynote address, the National Director of Dorothy Springer Trust, Dr. Abdulai Dumbuya, called on the graduands to believe in themselves, stressing that they should believe that they can achieve the highest level of education if they have the zeal and determination.

He revealed that as a polio victim from the age of five years he went on to become a Doctor of Engineering.

He revealed that he had to come back to Sierra Leone from the United Kingdom to set up a non Governmental organization specifically to give opportunities to polio victims to exploit their potentials, maintaining that disability is not an inability.
