National Fire Force Ends Sensitization
The regional office of the National Fire Force in Kenema on Tuesday 12 November 2013 concluded one day sensitization for Hangha community on the prevention of fire.
The Regional Commander of the National Fire Force in Kenema, Sheku Baba Sesay, said the business of fire fighting should be the concern of all; as he put it “Fire is a good servant but a bad Master”.
Sheku Baba Sesay told the people of that community that fire prevention includes all the mechanism that should be put in place to avert the occurrence of fire beyond human control.
The regional commander hinted that some of the causes of fire are the careless use of coal pot especially among women. Adding that the rampant sales of petrol by “Jebu” sellers are also contributing to fire outbreak in most of the communities.
Sheku Baba Sesay advised the people of Hangha to keep at least one bucket of water or a bag of sand as a substitute fire extinguisher.
Mr. Sesay concluded by giving out the call line of the National Fire force in the region on Africell 308 which he said is on for 24 hours.
The deputy chairman of the Kenema District Council Simeon Ngaujia said the people of Hangha should learn to construct fire belt to prevent the spread of fire to the nearby bushes during the dries.
Mr. Ngaujia said before this time the business of fire force was only concentrated in the Nation’s Capital but the present APC government of Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has brought the idea of fire fighting to the doorstep of the people, and they have lost valuable properties as a result of fire outbreak which they were not able to contain.
The district council man said the council will now be in place to tackle any fire incident with the presence of the new fire fighting engine.
Simeon Ngaujia called on the people of Hangha to obey the advice sent out by the fire force so that the business of fire breakout will not be their portion.
