ABC Development Coordinator explains interventions

The District Coordinator, ABC-Development, Mr. Alimamy Sembu Kamara has told this press that some of their interventions in the area of health involves the training of Community Health Workers to administer treatment for Malaria, Pneumonia and Diarrhea for under five children in eight hundred and five communities in the Kambia District over the past three years.

According to Mr. Kamara, this has evidently contributed immensely to the reduction of the high infant mortality rate in the district.

He revealed that the project is being funded by the UNICEF through IRC and CARE.

He explained that in partnership with CARE Sierra Leone, they are also implementing a three year European funded project that is meant to build and strengthen the capacity of communities to make maximum utilization of the free health care in the district.

He also revealed that they are also intervening in promoting the girl child care education in the district through the establishment of a girl’s secondary school funded by Sunday Foundation which is an international partner.

He said they were calling on the Ministry of Education and particularly the District Councils to help facilitate the process of approval of Teachers of schools as this would ensure the enhancement of quality education for the girl child.

He disclosed that they also support farmers with seed supplies and micro-credit for women groups to promote agriculture in the district.
