Sierra Leone Musicians Union PRO Calls for Unity

The public relation officer of the Sierra Leone Musicians Union, Mr. William Taylor, also popularly known as Willo-Wise in a recent interview with our reporter said that the issues surrounding the development of musicians who are expected to benefit immensely from their products needs an address and that he is calling on all musicians to be more united as a means of achieving these aims and objectives.

He disclosed that the entertainment industry is the second fastest growing business entity in the world and that the music industry is expected to bring huge economic dividend to the government of Sierra Leone and at the same time will help in the development of talented youths in the country.

He said that factions being formed by musicians have been proved to be influenced by selfish musicians who are using them to negative impact on the society adding that the effort of these selfish people is disrupting positive initiatives within the country especially that of the call of the President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma for the Agenda for Prosperity to hold.

He disclosed that the Sierra Leone’s Musicians Union was formed to work closely with the government of Sierra Leone, design activities and raise funds that will help in the development of the people that are involved in the investment of music with the music industry.

Mr. Taylor further disclosed that the National Provisional Ruling Council of Valentine Essegrabo Melvin Strasser made provisions for the Musicians Union to have an office space within the Youyi building, eight (8) floor, to help members of the union work closely with the government of the day adding that the following Sierra Leone People’s Party officials discouraged their settlement within the government building by ignoring all calls that was made by them and that the membership of the union decided to move into the office of the Sierra Leone Labour Congress for better planning and comfort.

The musical guru, a regae musical superstar disclosed that four musical albums “ Survival”, “Bubu dance”, “Big one dem”, “Alagba” and “The Messiahs” that featured Mr. Victor Sesay also known as Amzard Links has been to his credit since 1997.

He further disclosed that he is a retired member of the Sierra Leone Police Force and that he was part of the Police band adding seeking the opportunity to release his solo musical album at that time which was not a mandate for police personnel in the band urged him to resign to further his dreams as a musician.

As a discipline person in the society, Mr. Taylor said that he is working very hard in consonant with other members in the music industry to apply discipline, concern and care for the development of people who invests within the entertainment course.

Meanwhile, he has said that the Sierra Leone Musicians Union is holding a general meeting on Sunday November 9, to build a formidable team and to further strategize in addressing issues affecting the growth of musicians in the country.
