Henry D. Williams Squash Tournament ends

The much trumpeted Henry D. Williams Memorial Junior Squash Tournament that was held on the 28th – 29th September this year at the Golf Club in Freetown was won by the St. Edwards Secondary School team.

The stakeholders were grateful to Mr. Issa Kamara for organizing a successful youth tournament.

Fifty-two players competed in categories U-15, U-17, U-19 and U-23 respectively.

In the U-15 category, Charles Smith of Price of Whales School beat Abdul Rahman of Sierra Leone Grammar School three sets to one.

In the U-17 Category, Peter Juana of Saint Edwards Secondary School beat Cyprian John of Sierra Leone Grammar School by three sets to one.

In the U-19 category, Emmanuel Kpakima of Sierra Leone Grammar School beat his school mate by three sets to one.

In the U-23 category, Alfred Kappia of Saint Edwards Secondary School beat Tamba John his school mate by three sets to one.

The champions and runners-up in all categories received fifty plaques and rackets donated by the World Squash Association.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Issa Kamara, sponsor of the tournament, expressed his pleasure to all stakeholders who contributed to make the tourney a success.

He disclosed that Mr. Henry D. Williams was a philanthropist who contributed in the promotion of the Squash game. He stated that the winners and all participants should maintain the spirit of the game for the good of their physical, psychological and moral standards in society.
