‘I will do more for my country’ – Issa Kamara

Sierra Leone’s number one professional squash player who is based in Turkey, Issa Kamara, told squash stakeholders at the Freetown Gold Club over the weekend that he loved his country and that he was ready to support and organize tournaments for young squash players in order to enhance their skills.

Issa Kamara, 35, who recently organized his sixth squash tournament, is also Turkey’s number one ranked squash player. He started training for squash at the age of 8 and became Sierra Leone’s Senior Champion at 17.

Kamara became a professional squash player in 2005 and he has competed in various countries across the globe including Switzerland, Spain, Sweden, Nigeria, Ukraine, Italy, France, Scotland, Wales, Holland, Austria, Jordan, England and several others. He revealed that he was motivated by the late Sidi Kamara who he said was very instrumental in developing his career.

He appealed to the Sierra Leone squash executive and stakeholders to be united and focus on the development of the young players so that they too will become future stars.

He stressed that his dream is to help promote the young squash players below the ages of 20 years and mentor them to grow into stars.
