Massive corruption in Sierra Leone Army
Following the just concluded military training at Benguema for qualifiers to serve fully in the Sierra Leone military, intimate sources have revealed that massive corruption is ongoing by senior members of the military to discourage loyal citizens in serving in the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF).
Speaking to this paper, one Bernard Dixon who described himself as a victim of marginalization, said that being part of the RSLAF has been his dream since he was a little boy and that he was very happy when he was enrolled to be trained as a soldier to serve in the RSLAF.
He disclosed that a training session of young people interested to be members of the Sierra Leone military started at the Wilberforce environs and that he was pleased he was shortlisted among the expected 140 young people needed in Freetown for the finalists.
He further disclosed that the training team was earlier informed by senior officers at the training field that a total of 380 young people are needed out of this year’s trainees and that everyone involved should stage their major efforts and all medical qualifications to be on the final list.
He said he was very astonished when he was told by some of the senior military personnel responsible to shortlist qualifiers that he was a hypertension patient, noting that as far as he is concerned he does not have the disease.
He further explained that worried about this report his parents took him for medical tests which have established that he does not have hypertension.
He further disclosed that similar false claims were made against other young men and women so that they could not be given the opportunity to enroll in the army.
He said he was exposing this corruption so that the Military High Command could be alerted so that they could take measures to correct this gross injustice.
A well placed military source told this paper that a lot of other young people who have been marginalized in this manner are very angry and are of the opinion that the tactics of these senior military personnel to discourage young people from getting enrolled in the army was because they want to have their own relatives, friends and tribesmen in the army.
