First batch of pilgrims to leave for Mecca tomorrow
The Minister of Social Welfare Gender and Children Affairs Hon. Moijueh Kaikai has updated the nation on the efforts they as a Ministry have put in place to ensure that they have the most successful Hajj ever in Sierra Leone.
He made this disclosure when addressing Journalists at the weekly press briefing at the conference hall of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Brookfields, Freetown.
The Minister disclosed that 887 pilgrims will be performing the Hajj in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, this year.
He said that of this number 414 are women and 473 are men.
He clarifies that 451 of the pilgrims paid the $4,500 charged for each ticket directly from their pockets, while President Ernest Bai Koroma paid for the remaining 436.
He stated that adequate accommodation has already been prepared for the pilgrims in Madina while they have also made full payments for their transportation to travel around while on the Hajj.
He revealed that the first batch of 500 pilgrims will leave the shores of Sierra Leone tomorrow, Saturday, while the second and final batch that which will include the Minister will take off on Sunday.
