Tetteh Bangura suspended for elbowing
Sierra Leone international striker, Ibrahim Tetteh Bangura (in photo) looking relaxed, is set to miss vital encounters for Beitar Jerusalem, starting with this Saturday away tie to Ironi Ramat Hasharon which is going to be a big disappointment for coach, said Beitar coach Eli Cohen, as his side are not in the top four, they are currently in ninth position languishing behind league leaders Macabi Tel Aviv by eight points.
Despite the Sierra Leone striker opener for his new side, Bangura’s Beitar Jerusalem was forced to settle for a frustrating 2-2 draw against Hapoel Ra’anana in their last encounter, and they were denied a stoppage-time penalty in Netanya.
With an assist and netting his first goal of the season, Bangura 23 was sent off for elbowing Emmanuel Mbola nine minutes from time.
The encounter ended in controversy after Ra’anana midfielder Tamir Cohen clearly brought down Jerusalem’s Tunez in the box, but referee Eitan Schmuelevich mysteriously overlooked the incident, leaving Beitar fuming at the injustice.
With Sunday’s stalemate, Beitar has picked up just four points from its first four matches of the season.
“This is part of the game. Referees also make mistakes,” said Beitar coach Eli Cohen, regaining his composure after running to confront Schmuelevich at the final whistle.
“Beitar has a new squad and we are building the team as we go along. This is a side that two weeks ago everyone said would be relegated,” Eli told journalists.
