VoiceAID SL celebrates teachers
Voice AID SL, a nongovernmental organisation that is geared towards giving a voice to the voiceless majority in Sierra Leone, is organising a National Thank A Teacher Day (TAT) and March Past in commemoration of World Teachers Day – Saturday 5th October 2013. The programme is being organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the Sierra Leone Teachers Union and key stakeholders in the education sector.
The National TAT Day and March Past is designed to create a platform for students, parents and people from all works of life to show gratitude to their teachers. Such gratitude will also be shown by sending a Thank You messages to their teachers.
On 5th October 2013, Students and Teachers will converge at the Annie Walsh Memorial Secondary School and the Government Collegiate Secondary School respectively, from where they will march to the National Stadium between 10am and 12 noon. At the Stadium celebratory speeches and statements will be made in recognition of the laudable contributions of teachers to national development in Sierra Leone.
There is no President, Minister, Pastor, Doctor, Engineer, Architect, Writer, Director, Journalist, etc, who did not pass through the mills of a teacher – a key reason why teachers need to be celebrated. We have all had one or two great teachers in our lives. They taught us to read and write our names, they inspired us and put us on the path to self-actualisation. For these and other reasons, the Sierra Leonean teacher deserves worthy recognition.
The National TAT Campaign is anon-profit venture. Net proceeds from the campaign will be channelled into improving the competence and performance of teachers through the establishment of centres of teaching excellence.
