T4u boosts House of Jesus for the Disabled

The House of Jesus for the Disabled in Freetown has received seven bags of 25 kg rice, clothes, shoes and Le200,000.00 from Teams for You   (T4U), a group of British volunteers that came to this country to assess the condition of the deprived and less-privileged Sierra Leoneans.  (Photo: Dave Cooke and Pastor Koroma)

Handing over the items, the Director of T4U, Mr. Dave Cooke, explained that the donation was in fulfilment of a promise he made to them earlier that they would assist them.

“We are here to give our little assistance to our brothers and sisters and children too,” said Mr. Cooke, adding that he wanted his colleagues to confirm what he had told them about the deplorable conditions of members of the House of Jesus back home in England.

In his comments, Pastor Abu Koroma of the Word of Life Church in Wellington, said he was happy with the donation, noting that by the grace of God, more goodies will be extended to members of the House of Jesus in future.

Receiving the items, the Chairman of House of Jesus for the Disabled, Mr. Amara Koroma alias Toesman, expressed appreciation over the gesture extended to them. He said the arrival of T4U was a dream come true as they have been praying for such opportunities.

In his remarks, the Project Coordinator of House of Jesus for the Disabled, Mr. Mathew Vandi, thanked T4u for the gesture, adding that their intervention makes them feel proud as neglected disabled persons. He called on Government to provide them with medical facilities in order to reduce the death rate in the compound.

  • I was one of the Teams4U volunteers who had the privilege to meet and spend a couple of hours with the people of The House of Jesus in Freetown this September 2013. I worked alongside Dave Cooke and Pastor Abu along with 16 other volunteer workers from the UK. We visited Hastings, Devil Hole, Waterloo, Freetown and many other places.

I have since shared my experiences with my family, friends, work colleagues, clients, young children, my elders and strangers in the street. All of whom cannot believe what I tell them and continue to ask me questions about Sierra Leone. The word is spreading.

The courage and strength of the Sierra Leoneans who I met at The House of Jesus will stay with me for the rest of my life. Every single day I think about them, their situation, the needs and their hope for a better life.

Nothing can take their hope, strength, unity and togetherness away from them, no matter how tough things get. It is my duty to spread the word as much as I can and open peoples’ eyes to the reality of the situation. Too many people in the UK have no idea about the real world or real suffering.

Where Sierra Leoneans lack in money, health and safety, economic status, government and non government support, stability, education structure, living conditions… you EXCEL in togetherness, hope, true strength and the winning mentality which, in time, will see Sierra Leone grow into a stable, expanding nation. Every Sierra Leonean that I had the pleasure of meeting, from the children, young adults, the young women in the Destiny Womens’ Vocational Centre, the parents, the incredible headteacherd and their colleagues, the Pastors..You all share the same fighting spirit and strong, focused mentality. And that is a formula for success. You are my biggest inspiration. I only wish I could have spent more time with you. It is my mission to regain contact with you and form a strong bond of communication.

I hope this message finds the appropriate people, it would be incredible if it reached the House of Jesus!

    Forever thinking about you,

    Lizzie House
