90 Days for SLRA to close pot holes in Freetown
The Deputy Directed General of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), Mr. Abdulai Aziz Kamara has expressed his feelings on Good Morning Salone program on Sierra Leone Broadcasting Cooperation (SLBC) that the SLRA is currently working hard on maintenance of the roads within Freetown, adding that a press release urging his institution to close all pot-holes in Freetown in 90 days is untimely.
Mr. Abdulai Aziz Kamara said appropriate funding to address the maintenance of roads in Sierra Leone is an issue that will be closely looked into by the Authority.
He said the roads needed massive rehabilitation, noting that public is waiting for SLRA to explain to the public what they are doing with the road maintenance fund.
Making reference to Wilkinson Road and Spur Road, Mr. Kamara said:
“Because of inadequate funding, SLRA did patching while the government is working in ensuring that there is adequate funding to start rehabilitating the roads in the city.”
He said there is project implementation in several areas within the city so SLRA should be given time to manifest its work.
“The SLRA presents a yearly budget to the government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Works and that these expected funds come in very late for implementation causing a lot of inconvenience for the Authority,” he said, adding that SLRA has developed an emergency programme that will be effected soon after the rains.
