A local registered Non-governmental Organization in Sierra Leone known as Tinap Tranga Children and Youth Organization (TTCYO) has recently completed a 3 week training of children and youth in various skills within the Mile 91 community, north of the country.

Speaking to our reporter, the Chairman of the organization, Daniel Jones said that his group intends to develop the mindset of children and the youth to be self-reliance and innovative in various works of life.

Jones disclosed that through the support of Arts Education International based in New York, USA, members of his group have trained 180 children and youth in Makeni, Moyamba and Mile 91 respectively in screen printing, Gara-tie dying, batique and cultural dancing, adding that beneficiaries were given materials like 6 T-Shirts, brushes, paints, rulers, geometrical set, Scu-G and others to help them start up their skilful practices.

He further disclosed that children who were trained in cultural dance were given scholarship opportunities in their various schools.

‘We hope to work with other local and International NGO’s to help gear the minds of the youth and children to positive living’, Jones said.
