Senegal’s female prime minister appoints new cabinet

The newly appointed Prime Minister of Senegal Ms Aminata Toure (in photo) has set up a 32 member cabinet following consultations with President Macky Sall and other political stakeholders.

Among the top Ministers that lost their posts are the Ministers of Interior General Pathe Seck and    Finance Amadu Kane who is said to be a close relative of President Sall.

Defence, Health, education and Foreign Affairs Ministers are among those who retained their seats. The former Justice Minister, now the newly appointed Prime Minister was replaced by Sidi Kaba.

Former Prime Minister Abdoul Mbaye, a professional Banker was due to reasons advance by the Press said to have been accused of reticent in delivering public services especially essential commodities which are said to still continue to fuel public outcry and  government failure to deliver on campaign  promises.

Officially accepting her appointment as Prime Minister, Ms Aminata Toure, promised to push forward the public delivery system and toughen her stance against those connected with ill – gotten wealth.

Public reaction to all this is still calm and the country is still reported to be calm and quiet with business going on as usual.

Ms Aminata Toure is the second woman Prime Minister of Senegal after Mame Madior Boye who led former President Wade’s first government. This is the first major reshuffle of President Sall since elected to office in April 2012.
