Kenema City Council receives Le 9.6 billion for road maintenance

The Road Maintenance Fund Administration in Sierra Leone has allocated the sum of Le 1,200,000,000 to both the Kenema City and Kenema District Councils for the maintenance of feeder roads and streets within the municipality and the district respectively.

In an interview with Head of the Public Relations Department of the Road Maintenance Fund Administration, Ms. Kumba M. Brewa, she said her department has allocated to seventeen local councils the sum of Le 9,619,742,040. She explained that out of this amount, her institution has only disbursed the sum of Le 1,442,961,306.00 to the seventeenĀ  councils.

She disclosed that the Kenema District Council received Le600 million and the Kenema City Council has received Le600 million.

She revealed that out of the allocated total her department has only disbursed fifteen percent of the amount to each council which is Le 90 million while the balance of Le 510 million will be disbursed later based on performance.

She further explained that they help the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) by maintaining the roads.

She explained that their sources of revenue include fuel levies and licenses from the SLRA, which they allocate to local councils for maintenance of roads in their localities and other administrative costs.

She said they are monitoring the work and revealed that the remaining councils will receive their allocations very soon.
