Solar light removed from PC’s residence

The Paramount Chief of Tankoro Chief in the Kono District can now go to bed with a restful moment as the issue of solar lights that sparked lots of controversy is now laid to rest.

It was on Sunday 21st July 2013 all solar lights in the residence of prominent people like the Vice President, Alhaji Sam Sumana; the Minister of Local Government, Diana Konomani and other local authorizes  like Paramount Chief Paul N. Saquee V; were removed. The Paramount Chief of Tankoro Chiefdom, report states, has not been a happy man since the two solar lights meant for the people Kono were installed  in his absence.

He informed this press over the weekend that he left Kono in June to spend two weeks in Freetown, leaving no street lights in his compound. “Not until on 25th June when I returned I found out that some Council Authorities had ordered that two solar lights be installed in my compound without my consent,” PC Saquee said, and added that during a Council meeting on 26th June 2013 he vehemently told the Authorities that he is not comfortable with the solar lights and that they should be removed immediately.

Sources say Council authorities refused to adhere to the Paramount Chief’s request on the grounds that he is entitled to the said lights as a Traditional Authority. “I told them that even though I am a major stakeholder in the community I don’t need any solar light because I am satisfied with the existing lights in my compound. “I don’t need street lights, especially when my entire Kaimbadu Community does not have a single solar light,” PC Saquee said, noting that at the same meeting he informed Council about the issue and the Mayor, Sahr Emerson Lamina promised that that his community will be considered in the supplementary quantum that will be supplied to the District soon.

However, despite this promise, the Paramount Chief said the mayor of Kopidu New Sembehun City Council has not treated him fairly. “They allowed the issue to become a public concern that resulted to my name been ridiculed in public,” he said.

Paramount Chief Saquee pride himself to be the brain behind the reconstruction of Ansarul Islamic Boys Secondary School which was destroyed during the war. The Chief, according to report is very much committed towards the development of his chiefdom, which is why he has continually been providing scholarships to deserving school pupils, and also prevailed on Octea Mining Company to be providing at least 25 scholarships to University students through the Kono Students Union.

Paramount Chief Saquee is happy to be the pioneer of the successes of the Diamond Stars Football Club, which continues to bring laurels to the Kono People and is currently sitting on top of the ongoing Sierra Leone Premier League. Even though the Diamond Stars has created employment for about fifty youths, yet the problem of unemployment is affecting PC Saquee’s Chiefdom. But this has not warranted him to lose hope as he is currently welcoming lots of investment opportunities that will help transform his chiefdom.

PC Saquee has also taken the lead in ensuring that Chiefdom Authorities under his administration are paid. This has provoked a situating wherein those in other Chiefdoms wanting to work under his administration.
