What a fighter Madiba is…

July 18 – Happy 95th Birthday Mandela! We reserve the right to refer to you as the 1st Gentleman of Africa. You traversed from a lawyer to an activist then a prisoner and from liberty you attained the presidency.  Your resilience is admirable, what a fighter you are.

Nelson Mandela became the face of the struggle against colonialism in South Africa and his selflessness and good examples is something to right home about. Today the South African medics say there is a steady improvement in his condition which suggests that Madiba is thrashing about life and death, oh what a fighter he really is. In spite of his ‘critical but stable’ medical condition, his birthday was celebrated in a unique way to demonstrate his life that was lavishly spent in the interest of his people. Today Africa celebrates the man, and the contribution he played to history which makes us think of him, and ourselves, with pride.

Born 95 years ago, Mandela has become an internationally acclaimed symbol of transformation. A catalyst to the vital, long overdue, racial revolution his country needed. But for South Africans, those of you who lived during this time, he has become both more and less than his reputation has created. Mandela represents the cornerstone of our faith that the future will get better, but the placement of that cornerstone doesn’t always feel stable enough. Many African nations who have had similar revolutions are now crippled by corruption and greed. Madiba’s life epitomizes integrity in the highest level and without blemish.

Honesty, truthfulness, candor and openness are all the same side of the Nelson Mandela story which is why other Africans must strive towards a Madiba side of their story.
