Marampa Chiefdom demands transfer of Lunsar LUC

Port Loko, July (SLENA) – A source has told SLENA that Lunsar, the chiefdom headquarter town of Marampa has become notorious for criminal activities.

In the month of June alone, sources say, there were over a dozen of reports at the Lunsar Police Station concerning threats, assaults, wounding and kidnapping, prominent amongst these were those recorded between 19th and 23rd of June 2013.

It all started with a proposed strike action against the Management of London Mining Company by land owners in demand for improved payment of surface rent and other benefits.

Calm was temporarily restored by the swift intervention of the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the North/Western Regionm, F.U.K. Daboh and a handful of dignitaries from Freetown.

Barely 24 hours after the apparent return to calm, another brawl emerged between supporters of the purported land owners.

In fact, it was a direct confrontation between the supporters of Mohamed Dollar and those of Mohamed Tarawalli.

Each of them is posing as the legitimate chairman of the so-called Association of Landowners in Marampa chiefdom.

Sources say it zeroed down to another set of opposing faction that has to do with the supporters of Osman Karankay Conteh and those of Santigie Paul Sesay aka “Santigie Shilling”.

These two, according to sources, are active members of the Ruling All Peoples Congress Party with different ideologies, dating back to the election of the Chairman of the Party’s Executive in Constituency 50.

Although this has largely divided the Lunsar Community, the alleged bias manner in which the Local Unit Commander at the Lunsar Police Station, Supt. Francis Koroma often handles issues has been described as adding insults to injuries.

The actions of Supt. Koroma have not only been challenged by several key personalities in Lunsar, but have also prevailed on A.I.G. Daboh to have him transferred without further delay, if sanity should be sustained in Lunsar.

Some of the points advanced against LUC Koroma have to do with the case of Abdul O. Turay (A.O.T.) who claimed to have been attacked by thugs under the command of Osman Karankay Conteh on 20th June with sticks, stones and knives which resulted in the loss of his memory stick, marriage ring, a hundred dollar note and a Le230,000 cash, all of which was estimated at Le4.5 million.

Turay said on the 21st June 2013, thugs rushed to his residence with the intention to set his compound on fire and ended up destroying properties estimated at millions of Leones at the residence of his in-laws after they were repelled.

Turay told SLENA that he reported the matter to the police, but nothing was done even after he identified the Youth Chairman, Frank Conteh, the Okada Rider PRO, Saidu Kabia and others as his suspects.

Several other cases involving assault and malicious damaged have been reported to the police and the LUC was duly informed about all of the ugly developments but has done nothing significant which is why the chiefdom was demanding his immediate transfer.
