Widows Association Launched
The Special Adviser to the President, Hon. Ibrahim Ben Kargbo, over the weekend, launched the Sierra Leone Widows Association at the Atlantic Hall, Brookfields, Freetown.
Speaking at the launching ceremony on Saturday, 6th July, 2013, Hon. I.B. Kargbo (in photo) stated that the Sierra Leone Widows Association was created by well meaning women to serve as a stark reminder of the gap that can be created by the permanent absence of one’s spouse.
He said that the challenges confronting widows are numerous, ranging from the difficulties associated with single parenthood to difficulties in feeding, sheltering, clothing and educating the children.
He pointed out some of the problems associated with the failure of the relatives of dead husbands to sympathize with widows. The presidential adviser welcomed the idea of widows coming together to access funding to undertake life-sustaining programmes.
Hon. Kargbo further stated that His Excellency President Koroma is inclined to ensuring that widows are not subjected to unnecessary protocols regarding their access to the benefits of their dead husbands or access to loans to take care of their families.
