Sierra Leone Premier League begins this Week
The Sierra Leone Premier League 2013/14 season commences today with 14 premiership clubs across the country. Nine venues have been selected as playing grounds for the competition and each club will receive the sum of five million Leones for every round of the competition.
The competition will kick off with Ports Authority engaging FC Johansen at the Wusum playing ground in Makeni. Five matches will be played on Friday, 5th July, in Freetown and the provinces. Defending champions, Diamond Stars of Kono will host their Eastern Region rivals, Kambui Eagles of Kenema at the Koidu playing field in Kono. Bo Rangers will host Gem Stars of Tongo at the Bo Coronation Field. Newly-promoted Anti-Drugs FC will engage Eastern Lions at the Ernest Bai Koroma mini stadium at Newton while FCFC will lock horns with Central Parade at the Brima Attouga Mini Stadium.
In the final match of the day, another newly-promoted team, Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces Team (RSLAF), will battle against Mighty Blackpool at the Wusum Stadium in Makeni. On Saturday 6th July, runners up FC Kallon will engage Old Edwardians at the National Stadium.
The champion of the 2013/14 premier league will receive a cash prize of twenty million Leones and the runners up will pocket the sum of ten million Leones. It was the Normalization Committee and the clubs that took decision for the commencement of the league.
