45 Drivers Charged to Court…Several Remanded
The District Traffic Officer (DTO) at the Eastern Police Division in Freetown, Inspector Saidu Mike Kargbo, has disclosed that 45 drivers have been charged to court for various offences ranging from using an unauthorized routes, driving without license, and failing to take passengers to required destination to riding without helmet.
He made the disclosure past Saturday during a news conference in his office. He informed journalists that several of the drivers and riders were found guilty and fined and those who could not pay their fines were remanded at the Pademba Road maximum prison.
Inspector Kargbo warned drivers to desist from the unpleasant habit of plying halfway, vowing to continue dragging them to court if they do not stop the indecent practice.
He observed that the commercial bike riders have devised a new strategy to continue plying prohibited routes.
Inspector Kargbo said that in collaboration with his dedicated team, he has raised Le100 million in the form of fines which have been paid to the consolidated revenue.
