Deputy Speaker of Parliament warns MDAs
Freetown (SLENA) – The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Chernor Bah has cautioned ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to regulate their financial management properly in relation to the Auditor General investigations. (Photo: Hon. Bah and the PAC at work)
The deputy speaker was speaking in parliament last Wednesday during the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) hearing on the Audit Service Sierra Leone findings on MDAs for the year 2011.
While addressing MDAs such as ministries of agriculture, defence, foreign affairs, health and sanitation, mines and minerals and human resource management office (hrmo), Hon. Bah warned that with effect from January 2013 onward the Public Accounts Committee will not countenance any MDA who fails to comply with the Audit Service report and whoever does so will be dealt with according to law.
Hon. Bah further noted that some MDAs have been faulting on financial mismanagement, including poor record keeping and failing to observe procurement rules while engaged in massive mismanagement of government funds.
He said MDAs that have been facing the PAC have been given unnecessary excuses which he said has been hindering government development programmes.
It will be recalled that MDAs probed so far by the committee have been unable to properly account for billions of Leones. These include ministry of agriculture, foreign affairs and the military.
