MMCET Lecturers to Strike If…

Lecturers of the Milton Margai College of Education and Technology have vowed to go on a sit-down strike if government fails to honor their demand for the harmonization of conditions of service for all the polytechnics in this country.

This was disclosed to Sierra Express Media by the Chairperson of the Senior Staff Association,, Brookfields Campus, Philip Kongoley during an exclusive interview at his office.

Mr. Kongoley noted that there has been a variation in salary scales with lecturers of the Northern Polytechnic in Makeni, the Eastern Polytechnic in Kenema, and the Freetown Teachers College, receiving higher salaries than those of the MMCET.

Mr. Kongoley informed this press that the Tertiary Education Committee (TEC) had long sent a proposed salary scale to all polytechnic colleges in the country, noting that the other colleges acted on the document while MMCET did not, for reasons  which he did not state.

He accused government of jumping the May 31st deadline set for signing the harmonization document, stressing that if government does not sign the document after Tuesday, June 11th, they will definitely go on a sit-down strike.

Mr. Kongoley informed this medium about the proposed big meeting on 11th June this year at the Freetown Teachers College where all the polytechnics will present their various conditions of service to determine the one having the best conditions of service which all others will  follow.
