Police Mount Watertight Security At Lungi Airport
Police personnel attached to the Lungi international Airport under the command of the no nonsense Local Unit Commander, Supt. Santos Bangura has instituted watertight security throughout the airport and its perimeter fencing, a development the Board and management of the airport authority including stakeholders of Kaffubulum chiefdom described as a laudable development aimed at eradicating persistent loitering and minor incidences.
The airport police chief who took charge of the entire security network in September last year (2012) after his return from a United Nations Peace Keeping Mission in Dafur-Sudan, spoke to this medium over the weekend on plans to ensure that the country’s only airport enjoys maximum security.
Speaking further, Supt. Bangura, 47, intimated that since he was appointed as LUC by the Executive Management Board of the Sierra Leone Police under the astute leadership of the Inspector General of Police Francis Allieu Munu, one of the first things he did was to cement the existing relationship between his division and other stakeholders which according to him has paid positive result, noting that his division has been rehabilitated by the airport management, plus a vehicle also provided for their continued patrol of the airport perimeter fencing and lots more.
“I have been able to set a robust security network within the airport vicinity, adding that with the exception of diplomats and VIPs all others are thoroughly checked before entering the airport.’ he said.
He pointed out several instances were loiters have been arrested within the airport and charged to court adding that there is no safe haven for loiters and would-be trouble makers.
