Journalists to bag IMC awards
Journalists come this Friday 24th May 2013, are expected to receive different awards from the nation’s Independent Media Commission (IMC) for their outstanding performance in the field of journalism.
Speaking to journalists at the Independent Media Commission conference room last Friday, Chairman of IMC, Rod-Mac Johnson told newsmen that this year’s awards ceremony will mark the 7th National Media Awards ceremony organized by the IMC since it was established in 2005.
He said the ceremony will take place at the Bank of Sierra Leone Complex at Kingtom in Freetown and that journalists will be presented with awards during the event as a way of rewarding them for their talents in the various disciplines of journalism.
The Chairman said that over 250 entries were submitted by journalists, in the areas of best reporting on
|Information||Communication and Technology|
|Crimes and Court||Sexual and Gender Based Violence|
|Culture and Entertainment||Investigative|
|Best Newspaper Layout and Designs||Radio Drama Programme|
|Radio Magazine Programme||Radio Station (Technical)|
|Community Radio Station (North, South, East, West)||Commercial Radio Station|
|Outstanding Media Professional-Male||Most Media Professional-Female, and|
The Chairman noted that journalists will bag awards worth millions of leones.
The Commission’s Public Relation Officer, Paul Jibatteh in his PowerPoint presentation said since the birth of the awards ceremony, Zain Sierra Leone, now Airtel, has been the sole sponsor of the event, though the commission has encouraged other private institutions to come on board.
He noted that all journalists need to do is to submit their best article and programs on designated categories published or broadcasted during the period, adding that entries should be original.
