Biometric system to take over Ports Authority

According to the Head of the Management Information Technology (MIT) Division Mr. Brima Bainda, the Biometrics System is a computerized data-base collection of information. â€œThe electronics system is to collate detail of staff and their functions at various departments at the SLPA.â€
On his part, SLPA General Manager Captain Benjamin O.N Davies said the initiative is part of its administrative drive to ensure transparency, accountability and efficiency at the Port.
â€œThis is part of the reformed process supported by the World Bank and graced by the National Commission for Privatization (NCP) and the government of Sierra Leone,â€ said Captain Davies.
Mr. Davies emphasized that if the institution is to embark on employeeâ€™s verification exercise, â€œbase on our experience and determination the best way is to implement Biometric Computerized data base.â€
This, according to Captain Davies, would create added advantage and leverage in bringing on board other critical objectives of the reformed process.
He said upon completion of a database computerized depository of staff at various departments, â€œit is then easier for us to link it with personnel carrying out functions including to link up with attendance system that would ease the pressure of pay roll.â€
Stressing on the significant of Biometric System, Mr. Davies said the system, apart from minimizing corruption, would used to leverage security issues as passes would be produced from the same data.
He said the system would also allow management to have the necessary computer (IT) Instrument in place in view of linking it with customs (ASYCUNDA).By Abdul Kabia, Freetown
