Nongowa Chiefdom Strict On Local Tax Collection

Nongowa chiefdom authorities have revealed to this press that they will leave no stone unturned in the collection of local taxes for the year 2013.

The Chiefdom Administrative clerk Samuel Gbessay Dugba told this reporter that the chiefdom authorities and the district office  summoned a meeting recently to sensitize section chiefs on the collection of this year’s local tax. He stated that for the past years, local tax collection has been in limbo unit quite recount when the present government thought it wise to make the business of tax collection very transparent.

Samuel Dugba stated that a total of 100 booklets were given out to the Nongowa chiefdom authorities in the presence of community people for transparency sake. He noted that the eight sections in the chiefdom are expected to report at the end of June this year stating that any authority falling short or found wanting will face the full force of suspension.

Samuel Dugba noted with dismay that most of the sources of revenue generation for the native administration  have been taken over by the district and city counts adding that their revenue base is  now very narrow sighting tappers license, as the only source of revenue under their control.

He  thanked the APC government for taking over the judiciary aspect of the local administration adding that they were very happy when their office received money from the government to pay workers to the tune of 9 million Leones

The senior District Officer Mohamed Sheik Kargbo advised authorities to collect the money in a transparent manner so that their communities will benefit from their taxes they pay
