In Sierra Leone – one killed in Matorma gunfight
The aftermath of the untimely death of Manso Wadi Sesay, a member of the traditional Matorma Cult has forced a colleague, the alleged killer, Sitta Turay, into hiding.
Reports from members of the Matorma Traditional Society based in Sammy Town, in the mountain district area, west end of Freetown, state that last Sunday a.m., May 5, friends and family members of the deceased stormed and destroyed Sitta’s apartment in a vicious search to avenge the death of Manso Wadi Sesay.
Sources say the desperate mob ransacked every nook and cranny of the alleged murderer’s room to no avail. Manso is said to have bolted upon hearing that people were in search of him.
Sources revealed to Sierra Express Media that the alleged killer might have been hiding in the society bush in his village in Kamabala, some miles from Madina in the Kambia district.
It was also revealed that the suspect was planning to escape to neighboring Guinea even before the incident.
Sitta was said to have boasted that he had fired the deceased with a witch-gun although he looked healthy at that time.
On hearing this, wife of the deceased reported the matter to a local chief and it was agreed that Sitta should heal his colleague.
The head of the Matorma group in that community, one Mohamed, maintained that his group will not take responsibility for the incident as they had advised Sitta to undo his charm and save the life of a friend.
The unfortunate incident led to the beating of one Agba Foday by the brother of the deceased.
The deceased, commonly known as Wadi, in his forties, was a building contractor and a traditionalist who usually assisted community people with traditional herbal medicines.
He was buried on Monday 6th May and survived by seven children.
