Scouts Council elects new leaders
The National Scouts Council of Sierra Leone last Saturday held its Annual General Meeting. At the end of the meeting, the council elected a man of God and former Executive Committee member Rev. Ronald Bob Williams as the new president of the National Scout Council of the Sierra Leone Scout Association replacing the Hon. Justice Canon Nicolas C. Browns-Marks (Justice of the Appeal Court of Sierra Leone) who has served the association for the past eight years.
Hon. Justice Browns-Marks was nominated to conduct the election as chairman and assisted by scout commissioners Sannie A. Mohamed and Willke Quinne as tellers. Three people were elected as vice presidents they are Alhaji Unisa Alim Sesay (Awoko), Sheikh Fomba Swarray the chief Imam of the Madingo Central Mosque, and the Rev. Ayodele Aitkins.
Mr. Nazir Ahmed Alie Kamanda-Bongay the chief fire officer was unanimously elected as the new Chief Scout of the Republic of Sierra Leone replacing the outgoing chief scout Mr. Benka-Coker.
Lawyer S.T. G Saquee-Kamanda was re-elected as Honorary Secretary, Solomon Vava Scott was elected to the position of Treasurer, while Mr. Chernor Timbo as the new Auditor of the association.
Five people were also elected as members of the National Executive Committee. They are Josiah Paris, Mrs. Elizabeth Decker, Mr. Saidu Dumbuya, Alhaji Gibril Kamara and Mrs. Princess Griggs Davies.
The new chief scout elects Mr. Kamanda-Bongay re-appoints the chief commissioner of the Sierra Leone Scout Association Councillor Abubakarr Nylender Kargbo.
The new president of the National Scout Council Rev. R.B Williams is a great man of God who was born over fifty years ago from devoted Christian parents. He started his primary school education at the Regent Square Municipal School in central part of Freetown and later proceeded to the Methodist Boys High School where he completed his secondary school education. He attended the Sierra Leone Theological college and attained a Diploma in Theology and since then he has attended various international courses both nationally and international including Singapore, Canada, and London. He was ordained minister Methodist Church Sierra Leone (MCSL) and he has held various positions.
Rev. Williams started his scouting life as a cub scout at the Regent Square Municipal School and scouting as assistant troop leader at the 2nd Freetown Troop Methodist Boys’ School and commissioner Religious Affairs in charge of Christian faith.
