UMC Clergy Blasts Politicians in Sierra Leone

A pastor of the United Methodist Church (UMC) attached to Moyeiba, Kissy Brooke, in the East-end of Freetown , Rev. Alice Lassayo has said that Sierra Leone is still crippling at the bottom of the United Nations Development programme’s (UNDP) Human Development Index, mainlybecause of the dishonest nature of our politicians.

She maintained that Sierra Leone will only be removed from its present Socio-economic and political quagmire if politicians become honest and patriotic, devoid of tribal, regional, religious and political affiliations.

Rev. Alice Lassayo made this statement when delivering a  sermon at the annual Women’s Thanksgiving Service at Brown Memorial UM church, Kissy-bye pass Road held on Sunday, 28, April, 2013.

Speaking on the theme, “Launch Out Into The Deep,” taken from Luke chapter 5:4, the guest preacher entreated Christian women to avail themselves to the command of Jesus Christ by launching out into the deep and rescuing the perishing. According to the preacher, launching out into the deep requires  commitment,  dedication, determination, steadfastness and, above all, obedience to God’s command. It is against this backdrop that Rev. Lassayo admonished the women of Brown Memorial to be united and put aside petty jealousies so as to transform not only the church but the country at large.

The scriptures were read by Madam  Beatrice Fofanah, Mrs. Juliette Koroma and Mrs. Christiana Keiley while contributions in songs by the host and other sister churches formed a high point of this year’s celebration.
