BIOGRAPHY:

Alhaji Abdul Rahman Najmul-Huda Hamid was born on the 21st of June 1949 to parents Alpha Abdul Fattah Hamid and Mrs. Huratu Hamid of No. 1 Third Street, Mountain Cut, Freetown. He attended the Amaraia Primary School, Islamia Primary School, Government Model School, and Bishop Johnson Memorial Secondary School. In 1972, he traveled to the United States and completed his tertiary education at Southern Oregon State College, and the American University in Washington. D.C.  He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and International Relations.

After successfully attaining a degree in the United States, Alhaji Abdul Rahman Hamid, with a great sense of patriotism, opted to work in Sierra Leone.  He was employed at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and rose to the rank of Senior Information Officer.

Alhaji Abdul Rahman Hamid was born into a family deeply rooted in Islamic principles. His paternal grandfather, Hamid ul Majid was the first Naib to Alpha Saad Taju Deen, the former Imam of Foulah Town.  His avid interest in the teachings of Islam was noted at a very tender age.  Under the tutelage of Alpha Najmul Rashid and Alhaji Ade Muhammad Tejan, both renowned Islamic theologists of blessed memories, he performed exemplarily at the Ansarul Deen elekewe and the Amaraia School. With guidance from other renowned scholars of that era including Alhaji Ibrahim Jalloh; Alhaji Ahmad Barrie; Imam Jamiul Rahman, Alhaji Chernor Muhammad Alie, and Alhaji Ibrahim Macaulay, he excelled in Islamic theology.

Alhaji Abdul Rahman Hamid deepened his knowledge and experience as an Islamic scholar. In addition to his knowledge, his humility and overall disposition appealed to all and in February 1994 he was invited to join the Executive of the Foulah Town Jamaat. He was appointed Assistant Secretary General and later, Secretary General after the passing of Alhaji Haroun Oluwole Zubairu. In 2001 he performed the Hajj pilgrimage and afterwards, led prayers with the Jamaat for over one year until Imam Alhaji Abu Tejan was ill and received medical attention abroad. Alhaji Abdul Rahman Hamid was appointed and ordained as Imam on the 10th February 2013 after the death of Alhaji Abu Tejan in December 2012.

Alhaji Abdul Rahman Hamid was recognized for his contributions to society and in July 2008, he was appointed Commissioner for oaths. He is also a member of the Aku Muhamadan Burial Board. His hobbies include sports and reading. During his earlier years he played football and cricket and represented Foulah Town National Leagues.

Alhaji Abdul Rahman Hamid is blessed with three daughters: Mrs. Huratu Ademike Marah; Ailarah Eku-Bolajeh Juma Hamid, and Ajara Dzuliatu Ebedu Hamid.

May Allah (swt) guide him as he leads the Jamaat and the Foulah Town Community- Insha-Allah.

Armeen /Amen.
