Freetown, February  (SLENA): A youth organization, calling itself Mavericks the Chosen Youth is currently engaged in preaching the importance of education to secondary schools in the Western Area, advocating a better educational system in Sierra Leone.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) Edna Koppi, while speaking to newsmen earlier this week, drew parallel between a good education and a better future and urged the government to place more emphasis on sound the educational system, especial that which is relevant to the girl child education.

While explaining the objective of their advocacy, the PRO said youth issues should be key priority of the government, stating that her organization was working hard to ensure that more effort is being put to address youth issues.

Treasurer of the organization, Easterline Johnson, during their sensitization meeting at the St Joseph’s Convent School, Syke Street, explained to the pupils the difficulties their parents and guardians encounter to get money to meet their educational requirements and how life would be like without education.

She encouraged them to put extra effort in their school work. “Even if we have everything for our educational needs, we need to study hard to make good grades,” she said.

Easterline commended UNICEF and other non-governmental organizations that are helping to promote the welfare of children the world over, especially the girl child.
