APPYA Commends President Koroma of Sierra Leone
The All Political Parties Youth Association (APPYA) has commended President Ernest Bai Koroma (in photo) for fulfilling his promise of involving youths in national development decision making.
APPYA made the commendation during a press briefing yesterday at their head office at 48 Small Waterloo Street, Freetown.
Addressing journalists and donor partners, the Vice President of APPYA, Abass Kamara, who is representing the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) noted that President Koroma fulfilled his promise by appointing over five youths as ministers, appointing others as heads of various parastatals. He added that the president’s action is in line with the recommendation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) that youths should be accorded ten percent in national decision making.
In his keynote address, the APPYA Secretary-General, Moses Wulleh, informed that they have produced hundreds of Non-Violence stickers, calendars, and a newsletter called APPYA Times all as a way of marketing the association. He continued that APPYA will keep on preaching non-violence and political tolerance by organizing outreach programs, engaging political party leaders and holding national youth conferences to discuss the ten percent quota among others. APPYA, he said, will also conduct a baseline survey to ascertain youth representation in governance.
