Magistrate Warns Against Lawlessness in Sierra Leone
Magistrate Siray Wurie of the Freetown Magistrate Court has sent a strong warning against the rampant lawlessness that characterizes our country.
The magistrate gave the stern warning recently while penalizing over fifty drivers and commercial bike riders who were brought before him for various traffic offences ranging from driving without license, plying unauthorized route, failing to produce driving license on demand to manslaughter.
All the accused drivers and riders pleaded guilty and each received a penalty of not less than Le300,000 fine and an alternative imprisonment of not less than three months. The lawless drivers and riders were remanded for several weeks before being fined.
Magistrate Wurie emphasized that the penalties were aimed at sending a strong warning signal to lawless drivers and riders.
