President Koroma Remains Highly Popular

President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma remains a popular political figure in Sierra Leone, according to a recent independent research.

This is as a result of his commitment, style of leadership and above all putting words into action with major infrastructural developments in the country especially in the areas of power generation, road maintenance, agriculture, security and above all his successful efforts in tackling the growing economic crisis in the face of the global credit crunch.

After over a decade, the country has been able to enjoy frequent electricity supply which was the President’s first priorities since he took over the reigns of power.

The frequency in electricity supply is now encouraging investors into the country, and this no doubt, has the tendency of boosting the country’s economy.

It is generally believed that the failure of electricity supply in Sierra Leone has been a major problem for economic growth in Sierra Leone – and this is perhaps one major area where the Koroma administration is winning the support of the people.

Road construction is also another area the Koroma administration has recorded a huge success– the recent being the Makeni-Matotoka and the Lunsar – Tonkolili Highways, which was last week commissioned by the President himself.

Food security which is the President’s second priority after electricity supply has also scored some successes for the Koroma administration considering the impact already created.

Experts say hopes are very much alive that the government’s targeted date for the achievement of food security would soon be a reality.

Also, the improvement of security especially in the city is another major credit scored by the government – and this is also one major area Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora have come to appreciate the ruling government.

Before the festive season, there were fears about insecurity, but this was swiftly successfully put under control.

Many believed that previous reports of armed robbery before the festive season were manipulated by disgruntled politicians in a bid to sabotage the ruling government and scare aware potential investors.

Sierra Leoneans have been very much appreciative of the President and government’s efforts in trying to turn things around for the good of the ordinary Sierra Leonean.

 “The President is very much committed – he personally monitors and supervises every area of development in the country – and this is unprecedented in the history of a Sierra Leonean leader,” said a university lecturer.

 “The President and his team have been working tirelessly in and out of the country for the good of the country,” said a seasoned politician.

Meanwhile, the general belief is that the President has achieved so much over the last two years – an indication that there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel before the expiration of the President’s term of office.
