Schlenker School braces up for the new 6344 education system
Port Loko, February (SLENA): Apart from the huge number of serving teachers whose names are yet to be included in the payroll and the general need for teaching and learning materials, the issue of accommodation remains one of crucial challenges in the pending 6344 system of education.
Schlenka, the oldest and most populated secondary schools in the Port Loko district, is one of those schools that will find it quite difficult to cope if nothing is done to address the situation.
According to the principal of the school, Chernor Saidu Kamara, there is a problem of accommodation especially for the newly promoted SSS4 pupils.
He said it is therefore incumbent on most school authorities to look at the possibility of constructing additional school buildings.
The principal told SLENA in an interview that the situation at Schlenker is much more serious because the school was once used as a DDR camp during the war years.
In spite of the huge damage done on the school buildings, he said no one has ever come to the aid of the administration with special reference to infrastructure.
The principal said they have embarked on a self-help project for the construction of additional buildings as way of addressing the issue of the SSS4 pupils.
Mr. Chernor Saidu Kamara further explained how the school has embarked on fundraising activities with support from the Community Teachers Association.
He however used the opportunity to praise the Deputy Director of Education, Briams Tarimu Koroma for his continuing support to the school.
The principal said Mr. Koroma has presented a series of teaching and learning materials for the school and that the most recent package of science equipment was received late last week.
He said this has improved on the results of pupils offering science subjects at WASSCE level.
He therefore urged for the support of other well-meaning people towards the construction of classroom building for SSS4.
