Queen in embezzlement scam…to account for $2.9M

The Paramount Chief of Marampa Chiefdom, Portloko, Bai Koblo Queen is reported to have embezzled the sum of $2.9 million meant for the development of the chiefdom.

According to a correspondence dated 4th February, 2013, addressed to the Resident Minister, North, and signed by the Chairman-Elect of the Land Owners Association, Mining Concession Areas, Lunsar, Mohamed Tarawalie, Paramount Chief Koblo Queen, in 2012, received the sum of $2.4 million for sand mining from companies operating in the area and as recently as end of January, 2013, the companies again paid to him the sum of $500,000 for the same purpose. The correspondence alleges that the Paramount Chief has converted the said sums of money to his personal use thereby depriving the chiefdom people on whose behalf he received the monies.

The letter further accuses the Paramount Chief of plunging the chiefdom into abysmal poverty via his innate tendency of avarice and selfishness, also accusing him of abandoning his duties as Paramount Chief and becoming a permanent and sole contractor for London Mining Company having a fleet of machines working on hire for the company.

PC Queen is said to have monopolized almost all economic activities from the companies operating in the area and deprived his subjects by mobilizing non indigenous people for employment at London Mining and Cape Lambert all because of his insatiable desire for money.

The land owners and other stakeholders in the chiefdom are therefore calling on the Anti-Corruption Commission to probe PC Queen for the monies he has embezzled from the chiefdom entitlement.
