Deputy Foreign Minister briefs the press on OIC Summit

Freetown, (SLENA) -The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International cooperation, Dr. Ebun Jusu has briefed pressmen on the just concluded the 12th session of the Organisation of Islamic Conference now known as the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC) which was held in Cairo, Egypt.

Speaking at the weekly press briefing organized by the Ministry of Information and Communication, the deputy minister said the former Chair of the 12th session, the President of Senegal, handed over to Egypt, the current Chairman and highlighted the many issues discussed by the delegates during the summit.

These, she said, included the Israeli-Palestine conflict on Gaza strip and the illegal settlement, the Syria war, social Justice and freedom. The issue of Mali, also a founding member, was discussed. Other issues included the proliferation of Islamophobia and terrorism.

While speaking on the challenges facing the organization, the minister also catalogued the work that has been done by the OIC in Sierra Leone, adding that the OIC are the owners of the Islamic Development Bank which is presently funding the Freetown Matotoka highway.
